It appears that spring has finally arrived in the northeast. For thousands of children, that means the opportunity to break out the sidewalk chalk and start drawing. Drawing with chalk outside on driveways or walkways allows for a whole new environment that is not constrained by 8 ½ by 11 inches to enable children to expand new limits of creativity.
For parents, sidewalk chalk is one of the least expensive items you can purchase that allows your children to express themselves and develop their artistic skills. You do not even need to purchase an eraser. A hose or Mother Nature will suffice.
One of your jobs as a parent is to expose your children to as many different positive outlets as possible. In recent years, chalk art or street art has become a minor phenomenon is certain towns and cities. I would highly recommend that you show your children some examples of quality street artwork whether through photographs, videos (YouTube has many like the one below), or actually taking them to visit one. Doing so may inspire your child to try it or take their current skill to a new level.
You never know what may spark a child’s interest and you will certainly never know if you do not expose them to such activities. They may just end up getting involved in a project like the one in the video below.
You must watch this video if you have the faintest interest in art or illusions.
